San Jose, California – San Jose police revealed more details Wednesday about a shooting in an El Paseo De Saratoga parking lot, saying a 43-year-old man killed his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend and then shot himself.
In a news release, Sgt. Jorge Garibay said Edgard Altamirano shot and killed his girlfriend at the mall in the 500 block of El Paseo de Saratoga around 11:40 a.m. Tuesday.
Officers found the couple on the ground in the parking lot, both suffering from at least one gunshot wound, police said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The actual crime scene is located in front of the European Wax Center.
Detectives pieced together that Altamirano had been dating the young woman for a time, and after their relationship ended, she confronted the victim outside her workplace. During the confrontation, Altamirano “shot her multiple times and then turned the gun on himself, killing them both.”
Police found a gun at the scene. The gun was legally registered in Altamirano.
“Our indication at this time is that we have had no previous contact with police in relation to any type of domestic violence or intimate partner violence or disturbance between these two individuals,” Garibay said.
In fact, police said Altamirano found no documented criminal history.
Police said the motive and circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.
This is the fourth homicide in the city in 2026.
