Michigan QB Transfer Jadyn Davis Set to Visit BYU

BYU will have a quarterback transfer on campus as Michigan transfer Jadin Davis will visit BYU on Friday, according to 247 Sports.

Davis announced on Jan. 6 that he would enter the portal and scheduled a visit to BYU a few days later.

Bear Bachmeier is the obvious starter next season, but BYU is looking for a backup quarterback after Micah Hillstead transferred to Utah State. Davis spent two seasons at Michigan and didn’t get any meaningful time behind Michigan’s other quarterbacks. However, Davis is a highly regarded quarterback in the 2024 class. He was the North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year as a high school junior and North Carolina Football Player of the Year as a junior and senior, where he was a four-star recruit. He is the No. 9 quarterback in the class, according to 247 Sports. Below is the HS scouting report from 247 Scouting Director Andrew Ivins.

“A high-level player who has played a lot of games and won a lot of games. Might not have elite size or an elite arm, but has proven to be a pretty accurate passer and can put his playmakers in positions to make plays. Won MVP at FBU Freshman All-American Bowl After honors, he went through a bit of a slump as a sophomore but bounced back in a big way by winning state championships as a junior and senior. Seems to be in top shape and looks to attack short and mid-range throws with enough speed and confidence, but some of his better passes on the year came off a quick three-step throw that shouldn’t be considered a true dual-threat talent since it’s a quick and repeatable process, but he’s athletic enough to make defenders miss in space. Players in this year’s cycle who have started 40 or more games and thrown over 100 touchdown passes in their prep careers have the football IQ and mental makeup to get the job done on Saturday as potential multi-year starters who may be attractive not only to coaches, but to NFL scouts as well.”

We’ll see what other interest Davis garners, but visiting BYU immediately after he entered the portal is an encouraging sign. Jardine is certainly encouraged by Aaron Roderick’s pedigree in developing quarterbacks. Davis would give BYU a high-ceiling backup quarterback with three years of eligibility remaining. He will be a redshirt sophomore next season. If he commits to visiting, he will likely be able to sign up for the winter semester and be able to attend spring ball.
