Man United 1-1 Wolves: What Amorim said

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim told BBC Match of the Day: “Weird game. We knew it was going to be a different game to Newcastle. Today we needed more imagination to create chances. We struggled to win the ball in the first half. They put a lot of people in the midfield. We tried, but the quality was not high. We need to recover for the next one.”

On missing players: “No excuses were used. We tried to play two forwards and then conceded from a set piece. Today was not our day.”

On the goal conceded before halftime: “We need to work on this because it’s not the first time. The fluidity of the game is not there. We tried.

“We tried to overload one side but in the Premier League you need one-on-one games and you need games like this and we didn’t do that today.

“We didn’t have the players to play on the outside – we tried to overload the midfield but today was not our day.

“Even against Everton, losing by three points, West Ham by two points. It’s always frustrating. That’s the way football is. If you focus on performance, we struggled today.”
