Lowe’s Home Improvement will eliminate about 600 corporate jobs, Channel 9 learned Friday.
The company said the layoffs accounted for less than 1% of its workforce. The layoffs are limited to company employees and will not affect those who work in the company’s retail stores.
The home improvement retailer is one of the largest employers in the Charlotte area. While Lowe’s has corporate headquarters in the area, officials did not say how many local employees were affected or when the layoffs would take effect.
The company said in a statement that it would provide some assistance to those affected.
“We are grateful for the contributions these employees have made to Lowe’s,” the company said in a statement. “We are committed to providing them with financial assistance, ongoing benefits over time and career transition resources.”
Lowe’s described the layoffs as a way to adjust its operations to the current retail market.
“Reductions in the company’s workforce allow Lowe’s to sharpen our focus on the front line while maintaining agility in a dynamic home improvement environment,” the statement said.
