Lindsey Vonn shared an X-ray on Friday showing the extent of the injuries she sustained when she was involved in a car crash at the Winter Olympics.
The photo shows the hardware on her leg after her fifth surgery over six hours since her fall on February 8 during a downhill race at the Cortina Games in Milan. She suffered a complex tibia fracture and spent about a week in an Italian hospital before returning to the United States.

“As you can see it required a lot of boards and screws to put back together, but Dr. [Tom] Hackett did an amazing job,” Vaughn wrote on Instagram. “Thank you Dr. [Randall] Viola also helped with the surgery! ! “
“I’m really an android now,” Vaughan wrote on X, introducing the photo.

Accompanied by a video of her being wheeled in a hospital bed, Vaughn added, “I’ve been struggling a bit post-op due to the severity of the trauma, and haven’t been able to leave the hospital yet… It’s almost there. Baby steps.”
Vonn won a gold medal in the downhill in 2010 and, at 41, is trying to make an Olympic comeback. Just days before the Olympics, she ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament. She fell downhill just seconds into the Olympics and was airlifted to the hospital.

She also revealed personal heartbreak last week. Her dog Leo died the day after the accident.

“It has been an extremely difficult few days,” she wrote. “This was probably the hardest moment of my life. I still haven’t come to terms with the fact that he’s gone.”
