Election season is in full swing in Barcelona, with the countdown to next month’s presidential vote underway. Joan Laporta is the favorite to be re-elected, and now, he’s preparing to return to office.
Laporta was out and about in Barcelona on Saturday, continuing his campaign. He gave a speech at the Sitges Port Resort Hotel, in which he discussed how he had helped stabilize the Catalan club’s financial woes, according to the general manager.

“Objectively, there is no doubt that the club is better than it was five years ago, thanks to a management that has brought the entity out of a limiting economic situation, restored institutional credibility and brought it back to the forefront. Good management is not the result of chance, but the result of continuous work, courageous decisions and the commitment of a management and executive team that puts the shield above any other interest.”

Laporta: Barcelona cannot afford to fall into inexperienced hands
Laporta has made it clear that he believes voters should support him because of his experience running the club, and he aims to make a small poach of the candidates who are also running to become Barcelona’s next president.

“The club should not fall into the hands of inexperienced people. It is necessary to reaffirm the institutional stability of the social and economic aspects, finalize the new Spotify Camp Nou project, consolidate a modern, professional and high-level governance model, maintain the sporting ambitions of all departments, guarantee an ownership model for members and continue to defend the essence of the club and its commitment to democracy, freedom and the Catalan language and culture.”
According to the rules of Barcelona’s electoral process, it has been two weeks since Laporta submitted his resignation. He is confident of being re-elected and now, given his popularity among club members and supporters, it’s easy to see why.
