Star defensive end Jaelen Phillips has agreed to a four-year, $120 million contract with the Carolina Panthers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday.
Considered one of the best defenders in this year’s free agent class, Phillips enters his sixth NFL season.

Phillips, the 18th overall pick by the Dolphins in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Miami, amassed 26 sacks, 177 tackles, 28 tackles for loss and 61 quarterback hits in 55 games before being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles at last year’s trade deadline.
The Eagles sent a 2026 third-round pick to the Dolphins as a pass rusher and quickly saw the Dolphins’ defense take a huge leap forward in the second half of the season. After allowing 23.1 points per game before the trade, Philadelphia started Week 10 as the league’s No. 1 scoring defense, allowing just 15.6 points per game.
Phillips has dealt with some major injuries during his career, including a torn Achilles tendon in 2023 and a torn ACL in 2024. Still, he didn’t miss a game in 2025 and had 63 total pressures, ranking 11th in the league, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.
