The deadline for filing ITR (Income Tax Return) for the assessment year 2023-24 is July 31. As the final filing date approaches, many taxpayers are scrambling to file their returns. The income tax department has not yet announced an extension to the last date for filing ITR, so taxpayers have less than five days to complete the process. If the ITR 2023-24 filing deadline is missed, a penalty of Rs. Taxpayers will be charged $5,000. To avoid last-minute mistakes, it is recommended to submit the return within the prescribed deadline.
While filing ITR, some important documents are required. These include the taxpayer’s PAN and Aadhaar card, Form 16 and Form 26AS provided by the employer, bank account details and statements, and investment details including rent, loans and capital income. Before you start filing your ITR, make sure you bring all the required documents.
The easiest way to file ITR is to log in to your account on the official website of Income Tax.
How to file income tax online using account login

Visit the Income Tax Online Portal and log in to your account using ID (PAN/Aadhaar) and password.

Select the e-filing option and then select the Income Tax Return option to file your return.

Enter the required details including assessment year, ITR form number, filing type and filing mode.

You need to select your status based on employment details.

In the ITR form number, you have to select the form that suits you and fill in the details as required. Employees can submit these details with the help of Form 26AS and Form 16.

Once completed, you will get a complete view of your tax details. If the details are correct, you can proceed.

You’ll also need to click “Continue Verification.” Later, select a verification option to verify the ITR from the given options.

After electronic verification, you can click “Submit” to submit the ITR.
