However, he and the Reds may be about to go through a particularly painful divorce.
After Liverpool’s draw with Leeds United in December 2025, Salah gave an explosive interview in which he accused the club and manager Arne Slott of making him a scapegoat for the team’s poor form, making a move away from Anfield all but inevitable. He even stated that he would use the game against Brighton as an opportunity to say goodbye to the fans before participating in the African Cup of Nations with Egypt.
Despite this, Salah only signed a new contract in April this year, and Slott’s future also appears uncertain, so there is no absolute guarantee that he will be transferred.

Will Mohamed Salah play for Liverpool vs Inter Milan?
Speculation was rife as to whether Salah would feature in Liverpool’s Champions League match against Inter Milan after his outburst at Leeds United.
The striker arrived at Liverpool’s training ground at around 9:30am local time on Monday and took part in Sunday’s recovery session.
An open training session began shortly before noon, with Salah appearing on the lawn with his teammates. He was seen sharing a joke and chatting with Dominik Szoboszlai, who has started Liverpool’s last three games in Salah’s favored right-wing position. Szoboszlai and Salah then paired up for medicine ball exercises.

Will Mohamed Salah leave Liverpool?
After a fascinating interview on December 6, it seems likely that Salah will leave Liverpool in the January transfer window.
The player said the Premier League match against Brighton at Anfield on December 13 may be his last game and he has told his family to come and see the fans off.

Of course, there’s no guarantee he’ll leave. Last year, Salah told the media that he had “more going out than in” at Liverpool amid protracted negotiations over a new contract, which he eventually signed.
This time, though, it feels a little different.

Mohamed Salah January transfer latest news
There had been speculation before Salah’s outburst that a January transfer was possible. i Paper’s Peter Hall previously reported that clubs in Saudi Arabia were considering making an offer in the January transfer window.

It now seems likely that the wealthy professional league will try to sign Salah in early 2026.
There has been no sign of an imminent bid, but the league – whose top-flight teams are funded by the wealthy Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) – has long been rumored to be keen to bring Salah to the country. Liverpool reportedly rejected a £150 million ($190 million at the time exchange rate) offer in September 2023, and they would certainly have taken another approach in the summer of 2025 if Salah had not signed a new contract.
If a deal can be agreed with Liverpool, the player will almost certainly go to one of the league’s four biggest (and best-funded) clubs: Al Ahly, Al Ittihad, Al Hilal or Al Nasr.
It seems unlikely that Al Nasr will sign Salah given they already have Cristiano Ronaldo, but it cannot be ruled out. However, it has been suggested that Al Hilal would be Salah’s most likely destination. Liverpool sold Darwin Nunez to the Riyadh-based club in August 2025 for approximately £46 million ($61 million).

Mohamed Salah Interview
Salah made extraordinary remarks after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United on December 6, sparking speculation about his future.
The striker, who was on the bench for a third consecutive league game, told the media that “the club seemed to have thrown me under the bus” as he was made a scapegoat for the Reds’ poor performance.
Salah also accused the club of breaking a promise he made when agreeing a new contract, saying “it seems to me that someone doesn’t want me to stay at the club” and claiming his relationship with Slott had broken down.

Mohamed Salah contract, salary
Salah signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool in April 2025, which will expire at the end of the 2026/27 season.
According to Capology, Salah’s pre-tax salary is around £500,000 ($655,000) per week, which would mean his annual salary is £26 million ($34 million).
It is estimated that if he moved to Saudi Arabia, he could earn seven times that amount.
After signing, he said: “It’s great, I’ve had the best time here. I’ve been here for eight years, hopefully ten. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I’ve had the best time of my career.”
