Iowa State women’s basketball (10-2, 1-0 Big Ten)’s second loss of the season forced the Hawkeyes to slip in the latest USA TODAY Sports coaches poll. Iowa fell two spots in the national rankings to No. 14, with a voter score of 335 points.
The Hawkeyes lost to No. 1 UConn 90-64 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday as part of the Sharks-Beautiful Women’s Championship Classic.

While the team actually shot pretty well from the field against UConn (25-for-51 from the field, 8-for-17 from 3-point range, and 6-for-8 from the free throw line), the Hawkeyes were held back by their season-high 26 turnovers, which led to the Huskies scoring a whopping 41 points off turnovers.
There are seven other Big Ten programs ranked in the latest Coaches Poll, including No. 4 UCLA, No. 6 Maryland, No. 8 Michigan State, No. 16 USC, No. 19 Ohio State, No. 21 Michigan State and No. 24 Nebraska. Washington was the only team to fall out of the top 25 this week and now joins Oregon among the Big Ten teams receiving votes.
Iowa heads into Christmas with a 10-2 overall record, and here’s the full Dec. 23 USA TODAY Sports women’s basketball coaches poll:
