iOS 14: How to Enable Back Tap on iPhone

Did you know that your iPhone has a cool hidden feature that allows you to trigger certain actions just by tapping on the back panel of the phone? For example, you can now take a screenshot by double-tapping the iPhone’s back panel or open the camera by triple-tapping the iPhone’s back panel. With the new back-press feature in iOS 14, the entire back panel of your iPhone essentially turns into one large touch-sensitive button, allowing you to interact with your phone like never before.

In addition to the actions available in the Back Tap menu, the feature also integrates well with Apple’s Shortcuts app. This further makes it possible to assign almost any action that can be used as a shortcut on the Internet. In this guide, we’ll tell you how to use the new Back Tap feature in iOS 14.

iOS 14: How to enable and use the back-press feature

Note that this feature is only available on iPhone 8 and newer models running iOS 14. Additionally, this feature is not available on iPad. Having said that, follow the steps below to enable the back feature on your iPhone.

  1. On your iPhone, go to set up.
  2. Scroll down a bit and go to Accessibility.
  3. On the next screen, under “Body and Movement,” click touch.
  4. Scroll to the end and go to click after.
  5. You will now see two options – double click and triple click.
  6. You can assign any action available in the list. For example, you can set up a “double-click” action to quickly take a screenshot, and a “triple-click” action to quickly access Control Center.
  7. After assigning the action, exit Setup. You can now start using the Back feature on your iPhone.

iOS 14: Back and Shortcuts integration

Backpress also integrates well with the Shortcuts app. This means that, in addition to having the actions already available in the back-click menu, you can assign custom shortcuts if you wish. For example, if you have a shortcut that lets you run the Instagram Stories camera from the Shortcuts app, you can now assign it to a simple double or triple tap.

All you need to do here is make sure you download Apple’s Shortcuts app on your iPhone. Once you have the app installed on your phone, visit RoutineHub for tons of custom shortcuts. To download and assign the shortcut to Back on iPhone, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to RoutineHub on iPhone.
  2. Find the shortcut you want to download and open it.
  3. beat Get shortcut Download it to your iPhone.
  4. Doing this will redirect you to the Shortcuts app. Scroll down to the bottom and click Add untrusted shortcuts.
  5. After adding the new shortcut, exit the Shortcuts application.
  6. Go to iPhone set up And repeat the previous steps to designate this new shortcut as a double- or triple-click action.

Here’s how you enable and use the new back-press functionality in iOS 14. Let us know in the comments how you plan to use this nifty new feature.
