GALENA, Kan. — An animal cruelty investigation is underway in Galena, and officials are asking for your help.
Six puppies were abandoned within city limits without “appropriate care and resources,” officials said. They were found yesterday near 24th Street.

The investigation is ongoing to identify those responsible. If found, the person could face charges of intentional abandonment of an animal, and since there were six puppies, there could be six charges.
“Abandoning animals is not only irresponsible, it is criminal. This behavior will not be tolerated in our community,” officials posted on social media.
Anyone with information about the abandoned puppy is asked to call the Galena Police Department at 620-783-5065.
The puppies have been taken to the Joplin Humane Society where they are being cared for.
