Illegal immigrant truck driver from India arrested in deadly California hit-and-run after Biden release

An illegal immigrant truck driver was arrested Tuesday for allegedly causing a fatal multi-vehicle crash in California and trying to flee the scene, federal officials said.

Manvir Singh, an undocumented immigrant from India, instantly killed two people near Lodi, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said.

Federal officials told Fox News that Singer, who faces multiple charges, reportedly entered the U.S. illegally through Arizona in 2023 and was later released by the Biden administration.

His arrest also marks the fourth illegal immigrant truck driver named “Singh” to be charged in a fatal crash since last year, the Department of Homeland Security said, highlighting what officials say is a growing trend involving illegal immigrant commercial drivers from India.

“Allowing illegal aliens, many of whom do not understand English, to obtain CDLs to operate 18-wheelers and transport hazardous materials on U.S. roadways is reckless and extremely dangerous to public safety,” officials said.

Singer reportedly skidded off the road and hit a guardrail around 12:20 p.m., triggering a crash that involved three other vehicles, The Legal Advocate reported, citing the California Highway Patrol.

He then attempted to flee the wreckage on foot before officers with the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office arrested him, officials said.

On May 19, 2026, Manvir Singh was arrested by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office near Lodi, California, following a fatal multi-vehicle crash.

The Department of Homeland Security said Singer faces multiple charges, including gross negligence vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, and resisting or obstructing an officer.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) also filed a detainer request, asking California authorities to detain the suspect and transfer him to federal custody.

“This illegal immigrant from India should never have been able to drive a semi-truck and kill two innocent people in a multi-vehicle crash in California,” Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said.

“This is yet another example of why illegal aliens should not be driving trucks on America’s highways. We need Congress to pass Delilah’s Law, which prohibits states from issuing commercial driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.”

Delilah’s Law is a proposed federal measure that would prohibit states from issuing commercial driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. It is named after Dalilah Coleman, a young girl whose life-changing injuries she suffered in a 2024 car accident in California, allegedly caused by an illegal immigrant driver.

Tuesday’s crash was just one of several recent incidents involving illegal immigrant truck drivers accused of causing fatal crashes, officials said.

ICE has taken a detainee into custody and asked California Gov. Gavin Newsom not to release an undocumented immigrant accused of causing a deadly multi-car pileup before fleeing the scene.

In April, ICE arrested an illegal immigrant truck driver in California who had a CDL. He is accused of killing a newlywed couple in Oregon on November 24, 2025. Authorities said he was initially released from jail in a sanctuary jurisdiction and later arrested by federal agents.

In February of this year, another illegal immigrant truck driver in Pennsylvania was accused of swerving into oncoming traffic and crashing head-on into a truck on February 3, killing four people.

In December, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Transportation (DOT) said an American was killed by a Chinese citizen with a CDL who allegedly failed an English proficiency test after a crash. The driver entered the United States from Mexico in 2023, the Department of Homeland Security said.

In August, illegal immigrant Harjinder Singh was arrested on three counts of vehicular homicide after allegedly trying to make an illegal U-turn through an “official use only” access point in St. Lucie County, Florida. Authorities said the reckless move blocked all lanes of traffic and led to a crash that killed three people.
