san diego – San Diego and Riverside counties have announced back-to-back public auctions of more than 1,600 tax-delinquent properties, providing the region with a rare surge of real estate opportunities.
Some have starting bids as low as $100, and officials will open the registration portal for homes, vacant lots and commercial sites this month.
what we know
San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Larry Cohen and the Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved two of the region’s largest tax sales in recent years.

The Riverside County auction is larger, with 946 properties scheduled to be sold between April 23 and 28.

what are they talking about
San Diego Treasurer and Tax Collector Larry Cohen stressed that his office “makes every effort” to contact owners before a sale, but noted that auctions are a necessary step in “selling properties that have been delinquent for at least five years.”
In Riverside, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the sale, returning the parcel to “income-producing status.” Officials there also urged residents without home internet to “use public computer terminals at Riverside County Library System branches” to ensure fair participation in the bidding process.
