How to Watch Super Bowl 50 Online

A big game day is coming up: Super Bowl 50 will take place Sunday night at 6:30 PM ET or Monday at 5:00 AM IST against the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos. But American viewers don’t need cable TV or even a TV antenna to watch: CBS is streaming the games online for free.

Fans will be able to watch the game on CBSSports.com via computer or tablet. They can also use the CBS Sports app to stream it to a fairly wide range of connected TV devices, including Roku set-top boxes, Apple TV, Google’s Chromecast and Xbox One.

But only “eligible Verizon Wireless customers” will be able to stream the games live to their smartphones through the NFL’s mobile app. Fans outside the United States must subscribe to NFL Game Pass, a video service priced at $99 per year, to watch games online. That is, unless they take the ethically questionable route of using a virtual private network or proxy to make their web traffic appear to come from within the United States.

Since 2012, the Super Bowl has been broadcast live online, usually on the website of the channel that owns the broadcast rights. But according to Variety , Super Bowl 50 will feature at least one major change: For the first time, national ads accompanying the game will be broadcast live alongside major attractions. So just because you have old-school TV access doesn’t mean you have to miss out on live tweets about Super Bowl ads like everyone else.
