YouTube allows users to download videos for offline viewing, but there are a few caveats. Users in India (and some other regions) can easily download YouTube videos on their smartphones using YouTube’s download option. For free users, resolution is limited to 720p, and files are available for 48 hours. Premium users can download videos in full resolution. However, while YouTube downloads are officially limited to mobile users, the streaming platform recently added an offline mode feature on desktop as well. The only problem is that this feature is limited to premium users. However, not all videos can be downloaded – videos set for private viewing are not downloadable, and there is an offline viewing option that content creators can disable.
How to download YouTube videos on your phone
While YouTube Premium membership allows content to be downloaded for offline viewing, users can also download some videos outside of the paid membership. These videos can only be viewed offline for up to 48 hours. Thereafter, you’ll need to reconnect your device to a mobile or Wi-Fi network every 48 hours. Reconnecting will allow the application to check for changes to the video or its availability. There are only a few places in the world where you can download videos.
