Steps to change WhatsApp phone number without losing chat history
Before starting the number change process, insert the SIM card with the new phone number into your phone and make sure the phone can receive text messages or calls. Also note that your old phone number should still be registered to WhatsApp. You can check the registered phone number by clicking on your profile through the WhatsApp settings menu. A screen will appear showing your name and phone number registered in the app. After completing the above points, you can follow the steps below to change your WhatsApp number.

Open WhatsApp on your phone.

Go to set up If you are an iPhone user. For Android users, the settings menu can be accessed by tapping the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of the screen.

Now, click account option and click Change number.

You will now see a screen asking you to confirm whether you can receive text messages or calls at your new number. If you have confirmed, please press Next button.

WhatsApp will now prompt you to register a new phone number. You will receive a six-digit code via text message or phone call to complete the registration process. Once registered, your WhatsApp chats will continue through your new phone number.
However, if you change your number while also switching phones, you’ll need to back up your chat history on Google Drive or iCloud – depending on your old phone. You’ll need to restore your backup on your new phone to restore your chat history.
