Hollow Knight: Silksong Will Release Before Holiday 2025, Not Tied to Xbox Ally Launch, Developer Says

Hollow Knight: Silk Song, the long-awaited sequel to 2017’s Hollow Knight, is set to launch in 2025, but there has been some confusion about the schedule. After a long period of silence from developer Team Cherry, the Metroidvania-like action game was confirmed to launch in 2025 during the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct presentation in April. On Sunday, at the Xbox Game Showcase, Microsoft announced that “Hollow Knight: Silk Song” will be the launch game for the new Xbox-branded ROG Ally handheld device launching in holiday 2025. Now, Team Cherry has finally clarified that the game will launch before the holidays start later this year.

After showing off the new consoles at a showcase, Xbox president Sarah Bond said that “the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available at launch and in Game Pass when Ally launches later this year.” ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally

But Team Cherry clarified that the game has nothing to do with the upcoming handheld device’s release and will be released before the start of the holiday season this year.

“I confirmed before the holidays – we have nothing to do with the console version,” Matthew Griffin, who is responsible for marketing and publishing of the game at Team Cherry, wrote on Silksong’s official Discord channel (spotted by Eurogamer)

This update marks the first time Team Cherry has confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silk Song will launch sometime in 2025. A release date has yet to be announced, although the studio has confirmed a wide release window – before the 2025 holiday season. However, the game is confirmed to be released on PC (Linux, Windows, Mac), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first released in 2019 and delayed indefinitely in 2023. Team Cherry actually stayed mum on the game, but confirmed it was in development, eventually debuting it at a Nintendo Direct in April and setting a 2025 release window.

The game tells the story of Bumblebee, the former Princess of Hallownest who appeared as a supporting character in the first game. Silk Song is set in a new kingdom where The Wasp must fight deadly enemies on her way to the castle at the top of the kingdom.
