Hades 2 to Be Timed Console Exclusive on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Supergiant Games Confirms

Developer Supergiant Games has confirmed that Hades 2 will be a limited-time console release on the Nintendo Switch 2 and original Switch. The roguelike action game appeared during a Nintendo Direct on April 2, confirming the Switch 2 release. Supergiant has now announced that Hades 2 will launch first on Nintendo platforms alongside its PC release, and then potentially on PlayStation and Xbox.

In Nintendo’s latest Creators Voice video, Supergiant Games confirmed that Hades 2 will launch first on the Nintendo Switch 2. The studio later clarified on X that the game would also be coming to the original Switch alongside its successor and PC.

“Hades II v1.0 will be released simultaneously on our Early Access platforms (Steam and Epic Games Store), Nintendo Switch 2, and original Nintendo Switch,” the developer confirmed Wednesday.

However, Supergiant has yet to announce a release date for Hades 2 version 1.0. In a “Creator’s Voice” video, the studio said it will share more information later this year.

Early access release

Hades 2 launches in Early Access on PC on May 6, 2024 (via Steam and Epic Games Store). On Steam, the early access version of the game received a “very positive” rating after more than 55,000 user reviews.

Supergiant has yet to confirm that Hades 2 will launch on PlayStation and Xbox, but the game will likely follow in the footsteps of its predecessor. Hades launched on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2020, and a year later on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Hades 2 was unveiled during a Switch 2-themed Nintendo Direct on April 2, becoming one of a long list of third-party games confirmed to launch on Nintendo’s new console. The game tells the story of Merino, the sister of the protagonist Zagreus in the first game and the princess of the underworld, who will challenge the time titan Kronos. The Nintendo Switch 2 was finally fully unveiled at the Direct conference and is expected to be released on June 5th.
