Sony is said to be planning to hold a State of Play gaming showcase later this month. The PlayStation parent company may share updates on upcoming first- and third-party games. The last State of Play presentation took place in September 2024, and Sony revealed Sucker Punch’s upcoming action-adventure game Soul of the Rampant.
Scheduled state of play broadcast in February
The information comes from industry insider Nate the Hate, who has previously shared accurate predictions and leaks about the game. Replying to a user on X, the tipster said Sony’s next State of Play presentation will launch this month.
While he didn’t reveal a specific date for State of Play, he hinted that the demo could take place around Valentine’s Day in mid-February.
There are no other details about the show yet, and Sony has yet to confirm a playback status stream. But the company typically hosts a “State of Play” event at the beginning of the year. In 2024, PlayStation State of Play was broadcast live on January 31st.
What to expect from game status
The last State of Play presentation was live-streamed on September 24, 2024, and Sony finally revealed Ghost of Tsushima, the follow-up to Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima. The event is packed with content, including updates, announcements and trailers for more than 20 games on PS5 and PS VR2.
For the next State of Play, Sony is likely to provide updates on upcoming PS5 games, such as Soul of the Tomb Raider, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Phantom Blade Zero, Star Wars: Heretic Prophet, and more.
The company may also provide an update on Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine; the studio has yet to reveal any details about the superhero game since its 2021 release.
Last month, Bloomberg reported that Sony had canceled two unannounced live service projects from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games. Sony confirmed the publication’s cancellation, saying the titles had been canceled “following a recent review by the company.”
Recently, the Japanese company announced a leadership shake-up at PlayStation, with Hideaki Nishino appointed as the sole CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). Nishino has been sharing CEO duties with PlayStation co-CEO Hermen Hulst since last year. In the meantime, Helst will remain as head of PlayStation Studios and focus on Sony’s first-party spend.
