It’s been a tough time for Kentucky football this offseason seeing player after player enter the transfer portal.
Yesterday, however, fans received good news with the announcement that tight end Willie Rodriguez will return to Lexington for one more season.
The tight end group becomes a key component of Kentucky’s offense in 2025, and with new head coach Will Stein now leading the program, there’s a lot of optimism that each position group will only get better as the team prepares for 2026.

Rodriguez saw playing time as a true freshman in 2024 and as a sophomore in 2025, catching 23 balls for 310 yards. His best game last season came against Vanderbilt in late November, when he had six catches for 78 yards. He also scored his first college touchdown against Eastern Michigan in mid-September.
Stein and the coaching staff have to be excited about Rodriguez’s decision to stay in Lexington rather than enter the portal. Entering his junior season, there was confidence that he would take another leap and become a key contributor to Kentucky’s offense.
