The Los Angeles Clippers had a future superstar and MVP in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on their roster for the 2018-19 season, but they chose not to develop him.

Instead, the team chose to trade him, Danilo Gallinari, five first-round picks, and two first-round picks from the Oklahoma City Thunder to Paul George on July 10, 2019.

To be fair, the Clippers failed miserably in this trade because Gilgeous-Alexander not only made a name for himself with the Thunder but also helped the Thunder win their first championship in 2025. George, meanwhile, left the Clippers after five seasons with underwhelming results from a team success standpoint.

On Monday, Gilgeous-Alexander made basketball history as the NBA has never done before, continuing to make Los Angeles look foolish for passing up on him.

“Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is now the only point guard to average over 30 points per game in a single season with a TOV of 0,” Real App revealed on X/twitter after a regular Gilgeous-Alexander masterclass (30 points, 3 assists, and zero turnovers).

Imagine what it would be like today if the Clippers had retained the 27-year-old four-time All-Star.

This move seemed logical at the time, considering the Clippers were in winning mode when Gilgeous-Alexander was a baby in the major leagues.

However, it’s now clear that George isn’t the answer to Los Angeles’ problems, which may have them considering what might happen to arguably the NBA’s best player.
