Three older Far Cry games are getting 60 fps patches on current-gen consoles. Ubisoft has confirmed that Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Far Cry: Primal will receive a 60 fps update on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on January 21st. Last year, the company rolled out a 60 fps patch for Far Cry 4 on current consoles.

Three Far Cry games get 60 FPS patches

Ubisoft confirmed in a Monday X post that it is updating three Far Cry games for modern platforms.

The company first revealed the 60fps update in a cryptic post and then confirmed that Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon, and Far Cry Primal will receive performance improvements on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

The 60fps patch will be available for Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon on January 21st. Ubisoft also shared gameplay footage of both games running at 60fps. Ubisoft has yet to explicitly confirm a release date for the Far Cry Primal 60fps patch, but the game will likely get the update on the same day as the other two Far Cry games.

Starting January 2, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X users will be able to play the game at a smooth 60fps frame rate. It’s also worth noting that Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon, and Primal are available as free downloads on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X as part of the Ubisoft+ Classics collection, bundled with PS Plus Extra/Deluxe and Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions.

This isn’t the first time Ubisoft has released a 60 fps patch for older Far Cry games. In April 2025, Far Cry 4 received a 60 fps update on current consoles. Far Cry 5, on the other hand, received a 60fps patch in March 2023 on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

The latest update means that starting January 21, all Far Cry 3 and subsequent games in the series will run at 60 fps on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

Far Cry 3 launched in 2012 and was a commercial and critical success for Ubisoft. This first-person shooter set the template for future games in the series, and open-world games in general. “Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon” is a standalone expansion pack for “Far Cry 3”, launched in 2013. Far Cry 4 followed in 2014, and Far Cry Primal, a spin-off set in prehistoric times, was released in 2016.

Far Cry 6 is the last mainline game, released in 2021. Ubisoft has yet to announce plans for the next game in the series. However, the company confirmed last year that it was delaying its “biggest production” to allow more development time and create “the best conditions for success.”

In October 2025, Ubisoft established Vantage Studios, a Tencent-backed subsidiary currently responsible for the company’s three major game series: “Assassin’s Creed,” “Far Cry” and “Rainbow Six.”
