CHARLOTTE (Queen City News) – A family who claims their child suffered serious injuries due to hospital negligence is still holding Atrium Health accountable.
On Tuesday morning, families gathered outside Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital for a silent protest sponsored by the civil rights group True Healing Under God.
They filed a medical malpractice lawsuit claiming that their child, Ma’Nyla Grace Conley, was born prematurely and suffered a stroke due to an improperly placed catheter. This left the little girl paralyzed and the family did not learn until months later that it had caused a stroke, documents say.
Atrium offered a $5 million settlement, but the family rejected it last fall. They said they would continue to push for change.
“I want to show Atrium today that I am a mother who will continue to fight,” said Shartezma Webber, Ma’Nyla’s mother. “She has a father who will continue to fight. She has a family. She has friends who will continue to advocate for her, and we will not stop. But even if Manila gets justice, we will continue to serve other families until you get justice for us.”
The lawsuit seeks damages from the hospital. We’ve reached out to Atrium for comment on the allegations and are awaiting a response.
