Crosstown dominance: White Sox beat Cubs, again, 4-2

Let’s call it a technical knockout: The White Sox reasserted their dominance over the rival Cubs.

Friday’s win, their third straight over the Ivy Raccoon Bears this spring and first at Camelback Ranch, was the most underwhelming of the bunch. In other words, the White Sox hit just two home runs in this game compared to their four-run home run in a 5-1 win on March 1 and eight in the Cactus League opener on February 20.

Good going, little Cubbies, you’ll get there one day.

Friday’s win featured enough at-bats to back up some great pitching. Davis Martin started and shut out his last name in the other dugout with four scoreless, one-hit, four-K innings. After Jordan Hicks pitched an inning at halftime (10 pitches, scoreless, hit, and K), Sean Newcomb came on for three strong innings (two unearned, three hits, base loaded, six K). Jordan Leasure ended the game with a scoreless tw0-K inning to earn the save.

The White Sox offense scattered four runs in the first five innings, including a bomb from suddenly indispensable Corey Lee:

Lee went 2-for-2 on the day and also scored the White Sox’s first run of the game in the second inning. This spring he is 10-for-26 with a .529 on-base percentage.

The White Sox did get their little brother from up north to tie it 3-2 in the sixth inning, with a two-out walk from center fielder Jarred Kelenic:

It has to be said that in a fierce battle between several fringe players, some of whom have no choice and will be dropped if they do not make the team, Kelenic has always shown his lack of desire.

Like a kitten playing with a mouse, the White Sox immediately fought back in the bottom half with an Everson Pereira home run:

The Cubs are 9-11 and given this is their final game against the White Sox, they have a chance to get back above .500 in the spring. Southside hosted the Dodgers on Saturday at Camelback Ranch and came back with a 12-9 victory. Hannah Filippo will look back at 2026 for the first time tomorrow afternoon on radio and television.
