Publisher Kepler Interactive confirmed the milestone in an X post on Sunday, marking a remarkable achievement for the new IP. “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” also became the highest-rated game of 2025 on the review aggregation website Metacritic, surpassing critically acclaimed games such as “Blue Prince”, “Split Fiction” and “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2”.

Kepler Interactive confirmed that the role-playing game had sold more than 1 million copies on Sunday. The update comes after the publisher announced that the game sold over 5,00,000 units within a day of its launch on April 24. “Thank you for your trust in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.” The game’s official controller was released on X on Sunday.
This is an impressive achievement for a new IP, especially considering that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is Sandfall Interactive’s first game. Sales are likely to rise quickly in the coming days as player response has been overwhelmingly positive.
“Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” was also successfully released on Steam. The game has reached a peak concurrent player count of over 1,20,000 on the platform – another impressive number considering the turn-based RPG available on Xbox Game Pass.

On Metacritic, the RPG has an overall score of 92, making it the highest-rated game of the year, well ahead of the indie roguelike puzzle game “Blue Prince” and the cooperative action-adventure game “Split Fiction.” On OpenCritic, “Clair Obscur” is also the highest-rated game of 2025, with a total score of 91, ahead of “Split Fiction” and “Kingdom: Deliverance 2”.
