The Centralia boys basketball team got an early start against RA Long on Monday, but the Lumberjacks fell to the Tigers 67-37.

Centralia scored 13 points in the first quarter and trailed by just four, but RA Long outscored the Tigers 35-14 in the next two frames.

Johnny Ruiz scored 14 points to lead Centralia’s offense, Trevor Griffis scored 10 points and Kadin Yeung scored seven points.

Despite the final score, Centralia head coach Jordan Thomas was pleased with his team’s effort.

Thomas said he has always respected the plan developed by RA Long coach Jeray Key and this is a great opportunity to play against them.

“It’s a great game to be a part of,” Thomas said. “Mentally, that game showed us that if we play together, we can compete with the best. I’m really proud of our guys and their mental toughness early in the season.”

Centralia (1-6) looks to bounce back Wednesday at home against Tenino.
