ESPN first reported the deal.
The trade helps Cleveland save on salary and luxury taxes and adds depth to the roster in Ellis and Schröder. The Cavaliers have won seven of their past nine games and currently sit fifth in the Eastern Conference.
Ellis is in the final year of a three-year, $5.1 million contract and brings an elite defender and three-point shooter to Cleveland. Ellis’ playing time has decreased with the Kings this season, but he is a career 41.6 percent shooter from three-point range. He averaged 17.6 minutes per game and scored 5.6 points.
Schroeder, 32, signed a three-year contract worth $44.4 million this summer. This season he averaged 12.8 points and 5.3 assists per game.

Sacramento currently has the league’s worst record at 12-38 as they look to rebuild in their first year under general manager Scott Perry.
Hunter, 28, was the fourth overall pick in 2019 and has spent his career in Atlanta and Cleveland. He is averaging 14 points per game for the Cavaliers this season and has scored in double figures in all eight NBA seasons. Hunter has two years left on his contract, worth about $48 million.
Saric has played in just five games this season.
