Microsoft announced on Tuesday that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is coming to Game Pass. The first-person shooter will be available today (July 24) on Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Ultimate. The announcement confirms recent reports that Modern Warfare 3 will be coming to gaming subscription services this month.
Modern Warfare 3 on Game Pass
“Modern Warfare 3” was released in November last year and will be the first “Call of Duty” game to join Xbox Game Pass. The latest COD game will be available to play on the service ahead of the next game in the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, launching on Day 1 of Game Pass on October 25.
A few days ago, Microsoft said it would increase the pricing of Xbox Game Pass and launch a new “standard” subscription service that will not include new games on launch day. The price increase comes ahead of the popular Call of Duty game arriving on the service for the first time. Crucially, Black Ops 6 will be the first COD game to be released on Game Pass on day one.
Activision Blizzard Games on Game Pass
Microsoft has slowly begun adding games from the Activision Blizzard portfolio to Game Pass this year after acquiring the “Call of Duty” maker in a $69 billion deal in 2023. The gaming subscription service added Diablo IV in March.
Last year, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard games wouldn’t be available on Xbox Game Pass until 2024 due to regulatory hurdles that delayed the company’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The Xbox chief said at the time that Microsoft wouldn’t be able to complete the work needed to add Activision Blizzard games to the Game Pass catalog before the acquisition was finalized.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Microsoft was planning to launch more new Game Pass plans, including a cloud-only version of the service, a family and friends plan, and a free ad-supported plan.
