Brock Purdy injury update: 49ers QB suffers stinger in loss

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy had a terrible performance on Saturday.

Purdy left the team bruised during the 49ers’ 13-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The 49ers quarterback was hit on a pass in the second half and suffered a bloody thumb.

Purdy’s buzz didn’t stop there.

On fourth-and-6, with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Purdy was caught in the pocket by Seahawks linebacker Derek Hall and defensive lineman Leonard Williams while throwing an incomplete pass. Purdy lay on the ground for a moment, clearly in pain, and then walked off the court under his own power.

The Seahawks took over the football and got into victory formation with the game decided.

Was Brock Purdy injured against the Seahawks?

Head coach Kyle Shanahan announced after the game that Purdy was stabbed during a desperate play.

Week 1: Detroit Lions wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa (18) catches a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. The play was initially ruled an incomplete pass but was eventually overturned. Despite TeSlaa’s hard work, the Packers won the game 27-13.

San Francisco’s loss prevented them from earning the NFC West Division and the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.

Shanahan said Purdy’s stinger won’t prevent him from playing in next week’s wild-card game.

The 49ers have been plagued by injuries this season. Linebackers Fred Warner (ankle) and Nick Bosa (knee) suffered season-ending injuries earlier this season. Standout left tackle Trent Williams (hamstring) and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee and ankle) both missed Saturday’s game with injuries.

San Francisco does expect Williams, Pearsall and Purdy to be available for next week’s road playoff game.

“It would have been nice to have two home games here and a bye, but that’s what it is,” Shanahan said. “This team has been through a lot this year. Now we have to do it the hard way. We’ll take the (expletive) and do it the hard way. Looking forward to it.”
