The San Francisco 49ers enter Sunday night’s game looking to stay alive in the hunt for the No. 1 seed and NFC West division title.

With that in mind, this game couldn’t get off to a worse start for San Francisco. The Chicago Bears took the lead early in the first quarter when Brock Purdy’s first pass was intercepted, intercepted and returned for a touchdown.
After that, however, Purdy didn’t make any more mistakes.
Purdy, Christian McCaffrey and the 49ers offense scored four touchdowns in the first half (two of which were by Purdy himself) and led 28-21 at halftime despite the defensive scoring.
The same pattern continued in the second half as San Francisco scored two more touchdowns on passes to Kyle Juszczyk and Jaan Jennings.

Although Kaleb Williams and the Bears nearly pulled off a game-winning drive, they were stopped on second down and scored at the two-yard line as time expired.
The performance made history for Purdy, who became the first 49ers quarterback since 2003 (Jeff Garcia) to throw for three or more touchdowns passing and two or more rushing touchdowns.
With the win, San Francisco remains alive in the divisional round and will host the Seattle Seahawks next week with a chance to steal the division’s top seed despite trailing the Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams for much of the year.
That said, a loss could drop them to fifth or sixth, depending on how the Rams perform this year.
