Bengals’ Zac Taylor ‘appears’ safe via support from Burrow, Chase

Despite missing the playoffs for the third straight year, a new report says endorsements from the likes of Joe Burrow, Jamaal Chase and Tee Higgins played a role in how the front office views the team’s prospects.

This report comes from Dianna Russini of The Athletic ahead of the Week 18 season finale:

“Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has been vocal in his support of coach Zac Taylor within the organization, as have receivers Jamaal Chase and Ty Higgins. Cincinnati’s owners have made it clear they value Burrow’s perspective, and they’ve heard it in the past. Although Burrow suffered a serious toe injury that led to a 6-10 season, Taylor appears to be safe.”

If this does happen in an empty arena, Cincinnati’s united front will indeed believe that Burrow’s injury and a year of much-needed development for the young defense are to blame for the team’s failure this year.

Still, Burrow has publicly lobbied for “change” in recent weeks, seemingly lobbying the Bengals to do something new. It’s hard to say whether that’s spending money, bringing in outside voices or something else, but it doesn’t appear to include departures from the current coaching staff.
