Beloved soda from the 1960s returning to store shelves

A soda that was popular in the 1960s has been hard to find for years, but is now slowly making its way back to shelves across the United States, All Recipes reports. Tahitian Fruit Punch Soda has been appearing in Dollar General and Walmart stores in recent weeks.

The soda brand debuted in 1964 as a caffeine-free juice punch flavored beverage. It was originally marketed as “Canadian Tahitian Dry Goods.” The brand is now owned by Keurig Dr Pepper, and the company appears to be reintroducing the drink to customers.

While the drink was never discontinued, availability was limited over the years, making it a rare soda. Now it’s slowly being re-released, with some fans saying they’ve been finding it regularly for weeks. However, many pop lovers still need to go find it in person or buy the drink on the secondary market.

One commenter on a Reddit thread celebrating the soda’s return said they drove for more than an hour to buy three 12-packs of the drink. Since it is not widely available, dealers have started selling cases and individual cans or bottles at a premium. Listings as of Sunday, March 1, show a single 12-pack selling for $31.99.

Other listings that haven’t closed yet show prices starting at $25 and as high as $34 per box. For reference, a 12-pack is listed on Dollar General’s website for $8.75.

Luckily, it seems that more and more stores are starting to sell the soda, with Kroger and Hy-Vee grocery stores also advertising their stock of the drink. It’s unclear whether the Tahitian Fruit Punch Seltzer will return permanently or be available for a limited time.
