Atletico Madrid have begun making plans for next summer’s transfer window and it should be another busy schedule at the Riyadh Metropolitan Aviation Office. At least one defender and forward are expected to arrive, while a new midfielder is also likely to be brought in, depending on what happens with Cork’s resurrection and Connor Gallagher.
If someone were to be signed, one of the top candidates would be Leon Goretzka. The 30-year-old’s contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season and there has been no decision yet on whether he will stay at the Allianz Arena – although he is likely to end his eight-year stay in Bavaria.

According to Diario AS, Goretzka is aware of Atletico Madrid’s interest in him. He is positive about the move, although he has yet to make any decision on where to go after leaving Bayern.

Atletico face stiff competition from Goretzka
Goretzka is expected to attract plenty of interest in the coming months, with Christian Falk already revealing that a number of Europe’s top clubs want the Germany international.
“There is a market for Goretzka; he is highly rated in Istanbul. Galatasaray want him, Fenerbahce want him. Those are not his first-choice clubs. But there are also Italian clubs following him, Juventus and Napoli are interested. So, he has a big chance. If You are a free agent like Leon and you can get a salary like what he was earning at Bayern. He will also have a total income of about 17 million euros because he will also receive a signing fee – Bayern Munich will not pay this fee anymore and I think the two sides will shake hands and say goodbye in the summer.”

It remains to be seen whether Atletico will be serious about signing Goretzka. His salary demands could be an issue for a club with considerable financial problems, so unless he lowers those demands, a deal may be difficult to reach.
