SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced 408 public middle and high schools have been selected as 2026 California Schools of Distinction.
State education officials say the annual award recognizes outstanding schools that stand out for exemplary student achievement for all students.
“I am pleased to honor and recognize these 408 schools for their efforts to improve student outcomes, no matter what,” Thurmond said Tuesday. “Excellent public education has the power to change lives. This year’s California Distinguished Schools represent the hard work of our middle and high school educators and school staff who provide life-changing educational opportunities for our middle school students.”
This year’s awards are based on two main categories: schools with the highest academic performance in the state, and schools that accelerate academic progress for historically underserved groups.
