Battlefield Redsec, Battlefield 6’s Free-to-Play Battle Royale Mode, Arrives October 28

Electronic Arts has confirmed the official name and release date for Battlefield 6’s upcoming battle royale mode. The military shooter’s new BR mode, called Battlefield Redsec (short for “Redacted Sector”), will launch on October 28, the same day Battlefield 6 Season 1 begins. The battle royale mode will be free, EA said in a statement on Monday.

Battlefield Redsec will also get a gameplay trailer when the mode goes live on October 28 at 8am PT (8:30pm IST). EA will likely share all the details about the battle royale mode when it launches on Tuesday.

The mode’s name and release date were leaked a few days ago, and EA has confirmed it. While EA confirmed early on that Battlefield 6 would be getting a battle royale mode and shared some details about it, the publisher has yet to confirm when the mode will be available to Battlefield players.

Battlefield Redsec will launch on the same day as the first phase of post-launch content for Battlefield 6 Season 1, which will include new multiplayer maps, a 4v4 mode, and new weapons.

According to an early update from EA, Redsec will support up to 100 players on a vast map that will feature vehicles and environmental destruction. According to EA, the mode will feature the “deadliest” rings in the battle royale. Unlike other battle royale games, touching the ending ring in the game will result in instant death for the player.

In a community update last week, the company said it would be adjusting some aspects of Battlefield 6’s gameplay for the battle royale mode. The mode will see retuned kill times for close encounters, armor plating, environment fixes, and rebalanced vehicles.

It has been revealed that Redsec will be launching two playlists suitable for duo and squad (four player) team sizes. Additionally, the mode will reportedly support proximity chat functionality for in-game communication.

Redsec will likely launch as a separate free app on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, just like Call of Duty: Warzone. The mode will be available to all players on October 28th.

“Battlefield 6” was released on October 10 and sold more than 7 million copies in three days, becoming the “largest launch” in the history of the series.
