AMD Ryzen 9950X3D and 9900X3D, Ryzen Z2, Ryzen 9000 Mobile, and Ryzen AI Series CPUs Unveiled at CES 2025

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) launched several Ryzen-branded gaming CPUs at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on Monday, including the Ryzen 9900X3D and 9950X3D series and the Ryzen Z2 series. The company says its latest gaming-centric processor is designed to support desktop, mobile and handheld gaming. Additionally, the US chipmaker expanded its consumer and business-grade AI PC portfolio with the launch of Ryzen AI Max, Ryzen AI 300 and Ryzen 200 series processors, which it says offer maximum computing power in thin and light laptops.

AMD gaming products unveiled at CES 2025

AMD said its new processor lineup includes four new products targeting different platforms. The first two are the AMD Ryzen 9900X3D and 9950X3D series desktop processors aimed at content creators and gamers, with the latter featuring a 16-core architecture. AMD 9950X3D uses second-generation 3D V-Cache technology, has 16 “Zen 5” CPU cores and AMD RDNA 2 graphics. The company claims that by relocating the cache below the core composite chip (CCD), it can deliver higher clock speeds at lower temperatures.

For handheld gaming devices, AMD has launched the Ryzen Z2 series of processors, equipped with up to 8 “Zen 5” CPU cores and graphics cards driven by the RDNA 3.5 architecture. Meanwhile, the new Ryzen 9000HX series of processors are aimed at mobile laptops. They use the same second-generation 3D V-Cache technology as desktop processors and feature up to 16 cores capable of delivering 32-thread processing performance.

AMD Ryzen 9900X3D and 9950X3D desktop processors and Ryzen Z2 series chips will be available in the first quarter of 2025, while the Ryzen 9000HX series is scheduled to be available in the first half of this year.

AMD chips for AI PCs

The US chipmaker also expanded its AI PC CPU lineup with the launch of the Ryzen AI Max, Ryzen AI 300 and Ryzen AI 200 series. Ryzen AI Max offers up to 16 “Zen 5” CPU cores, up to 40 AMD RDNA 3.5 graphics computing units, and an AMD XDNA 2 Neural Processing Unit (NPU) with up to 50 TOPS of AI computing power. It has up to 128GB of unified memory, 96GB of which is said to be available for graphics. Part of the lineup is the new Ryzen AI Max Pro series processors, which are said to be capable of handling AI-accelerated workloads when handling large engineering and construction models.

Meanwhile, the new Ryzen AI 300 and Ryzen AI 300 Pro chips feature up to eight “Zen 5” CPU cores, RDNA 3.5 graphics architecture, and AMD XDNA 2 NPU. AMD says they are compatible with next-generation Microsoft Copilot+ devices, delivering 50+ NPU TOPS of peak AI performance.

The company also launched AMD Ryzen 200 series processors. They feature up to 8 “Zen 4” CPU cores and 16 threads, AMD RDNA 3 graphics, and up to 16 NPU TOPS.

Ryzen AI Max series and Ryzen AI 300 series chips will be available in the first quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, the AMD Ryzen 200 series is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2025.
