Arsenal want West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes

Arsenal are keen to sign West Ham United midfielder Mateusz Fernandez this summer, according to The Times. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is looking to reshape the club’s midfield at the Emirates Stadium and the “incredible” Portugal international has emerged as a target. Arsenal are willing to sell Christian Norgaard, who joined from Brentford last summer, and Fernandes could become his immediate replacement.

Arteta wants someone who can start in place of Declan Rice or Martin Zubimendi and the 21-year-old West Ham United star fits the bill as he can play deeper or further forward. He joined West Ham from Southampton last summer but could leave at the end of the season, especially if the Hammers are relegated. However, Arsenal are not the only team keeping an eye on Fernandes, with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain also keen on his qualities.

This season he has played 34 league games, contributing 3 goals and 3 assists, while last season he contributed 2 goals and 4 assists in 36 league games for the Saints.
