Soon, the New York Islanders will decide if he’s ready for an NHL roster or if he still needs more work at the AHL level.
But no matter what, Atchison will be taking the next step in his hockey career. His days in the OHL are over.
Aitchison had 70 points (28 goals, 42 assists) in the OHL regular season this year, then had 27 points (8 goals, 19 assists) in 19 playoff games.
For the uninitiated: Aitchison is a defensive lineman. These are ridiculous totals.
He was playing for the Barrie Colts of the OHL, and the Islanders selected him with the 17th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

They gave him one more season in the OHL, which Atchison played as a 19-year-old.

Aitchison represented Canada at the 2024 World U-18 Championship (gold medal) and the 2026 World Junior Championship (bronze medal).
His point totals have increased in each of his four seasons in the OHL, proving he’s got it all at this level.
Moving up is always a challenge, but Atchison seems to have done what he can to prepare.
