UPT20 League shifts to Kanpur’s Green Park

Lucknow: In a major development for the Uttar Pradesh T20 League, the fourth edition of the tournament will be moved to Kanpur with the Green Park Stadium hosting the tournament later this year.

The decision was taken at the league and Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) council meeting held in Lucknow on Tuesday.

According to sources, the tournament is likely to be held from mid-August to the first week of September. This will be the second time Green Park Stadium has hosted the prestigious league.
The first edition of the UPT20 league will be held in Kanpur from August 30 to September 16, 2023, with subsequent events being shifted to Lucknow.

Sources said the decision to move the league back to Kanpur was taken keeping in mind the expansion of the tournament and the growing interest.

The UPT20 Council is also planning a trophy tour ahead of the tournament. The tour is expected to cover six venues, including cities and regional headquarters represented by franchises across the state.

Sources said the league’s player workouts are expected to take place in June, while the auction could take place in July.

The organizers also plan to expand their global reach this season, with plans to broadcast the league in nearly 100-200 countries. The committee is reportedly in talks with several international broadcasters, while in India the league may be televised on Sony and Doordarshan.

“The vision is to take the league to a bigger platform and increase the identity and glamor quotient of each team,” a source said, adding that Bollywood celebrities could also be seen on the auction table this season.
