Iran’s top negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Monday that the United States must accept its latest 14-point proposal or American taxpayers “will pay the price.”
Ghalibaf wrote in a post on
“The longer they delay, the more it will cost American taxpayers,” he added.
The 14-point proposal includes efforts to end the war within 30 days, withdraw U.S. troops from Iran, lift sanctions on Iranian assets, pay reparations, end the fighting in Lebanon and new ways to manage the Strait of Hormuz, NPR reported.
The proposal has been submitted to the United States through Pakistan, which has been mediating the negotiations.
Iran’s latest peace offer comes after sharp condemnation of Iran’s response to the U.S. deal it presented over the weekend.
On Sunday, President Trump said, “I just read the response from the so-called ‘representatives’ of Iran. I don’t like it – totally unacceptable!” in a post on Truth Social.
The president has repeatedly urged Iran to permanently dismantle its nuclear enrichment program.
Tehran has previously offered to dilute some of its highly enriched uranium and give the remainder to a third, unspecified country.
While Iran urged the United States to accept its offer, Trump did the same.
On Sunday, Trump said Iran would “stop laughing” as he continued to finalize the framework of a peace proposal with Tehran.
“For 47 years, the Iranians have been ‘baiting’ us, keeping us waiting, killing our people with roadside bombs, destroying protests, most recently wiping out 42,000 unarmed innocent protesters, and laughing at our now-great-again country. They won’t laugh anymore!” Trump wrote in a Truth Society post on Sunday.
