IPL 2026: ‘Abuse of cricket equipment’ – Angkrish Raghuvanshi fined after controversial dismissal in LSG vs KKR match

New Delhi: Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders, was fined 20 per cent of his match fee and deducted one point for violating the IPL code of conduct during the match against Lucknow Supergiants.

The incident occurred after he was sent off for obstructing the pitch. Unhappy with the decision, Raghuvansh hit the boundary pad with his bat and threw away his helmet in frustration.

IPL confirmed the penalty in an official statement. “Kolkata Knight Riders batsman-wicketkeeper Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been fined 20% of the match fee and accumulated one point for violating Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during the 38th match against Lucknow Super Giants,” an IPL statement said.

The league further explained the specific reasons for the move. “Raghuvanshi was found to have breached Clause 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to ‘Misuse of cricket equipment or apparel, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during the match.'” The incident occurred in the fifth over when Raghuvansh was dismissed for “obstructing the pitch” by hitting the boundary pads violently with his bat before throwing his helmet into the dugout in a similar manner. ” the statement added.

Raghuvansh accepted the crime and the punishment. Level 1 violations typically result in fines or warnings, depending on the severity of the conduct.

Despite the controversy, the match itself was a thrilling one. KKR defeated LSG in the super overs after both teams scored 155 runs.

Rinku Singh played a key role with an unbeaten 83 to help KKR recover from a shaky start.
