Dolphins take top WR prospect in way-too-early 2027 NFL mock draft

The 2026 NFL Draft is over, with the Miami Dolphins adding 13 rookie players across seven rounds over three days.

While next year’s draft is still nearly a full year away, experts including CBS Sports’ Cooper Petagna are already predicting who teams will draft in 2027. In his premature mock, he had the Dolphins selecting Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith with the No. 3 overall pick.

“Rated as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports and often described as a ‘generational talent,’ Smith has lived up to his expectations in his first two seasons,” Petagna wrote. “A rare physical specimen, he became just the second receiver in program history to rush for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons. His combination of size, speed and strength – combined with elite intangibles – make him one of the most well-rounded receiver prospects in years.”

Smith, 20, was a five-star recruit out of Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School in Hollywood, Florida. He chose Ohio State over several other big schools.

In two seasons with the Buckeyes, he caught 163 passes for 2,558 yards and 27 touchdowns. He earned All-Big Ten and All-American honors both years and won a national championship in 2024.

Miami is in desperate need of help at wide receiver, and while they took three receivers in this year’s draft, none were on the same level as Smith.
