Former Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday burned members of her own party and said she was “exhausted” by people who only care about their titles.
The former vice president was asked how Democrats can regain the trust of black women.
Harris told The Root’s Power Rising event: “First and foremost, the party has to understand that the voices of real leaders in the community have to be the priority, rather than people who have been holding these titles and putting their heart and soul into maintaining their titles rather than actually getting anything done.”
“These people exhaust me,” she continued, noting that she is only the second black woman to serve in the U.S. Senate. “AOC can tell you how many people, including Democrats, would be walking around the Capitol wearing flags with all the interns running behind them and they would just think they were so important.”

“It’s a little controversial, but one of the things I’ve been saying is this. When I reflect on what happened, I realize that part of the problem, I think, is part of the human frailty in that they’re purely transactional people,” Harris said.
The former vice president said black women can also “trade.”
“They don’t pretend to be grounded in morals or values or principles,” Harris said. “They’re not pretending. They’re really not pretending. They’re just trying to get something out of it. Their mantra is, ‘I’m going to get mine.'” I think we can also trade a little bit and say, ‘I’m going to get mine, too.’ ‘”

She went on to argue that Democrats should not just look to black women to be the pillars of the party because of their value systems, morals and sense of civic responsibility.
“They’re voting because I have high character, which means I have to behave in a way that respects my ancestors and all the people who have sacrificed before me. So I’m going to vote because it’s my duty to all the people who paved the way for me to be here,” she said. “But they’re counting on that. And I say, also, they should be counting on the fact that we’re counting on that, and they have to know when to start counting on the vote. And that’s because if they win, they’re going to do better.”
Harris recently revealed that she is considering running in 2028.
The former vice president made several visits last week to South Carolina, one of the key early voting states on the Democratic nominating calendar.

She said the country was ready to elect a woman as president.
“I just try not to make other people’s problems my problems, as far as believing and understanding and taking action, who can do what. That’s my original intention,” she said.
