Caminero, Fraley and DeLuca homer as Rays pound White Sox 8-3 for 5th straight win

CHICAGO (AP) — Junior Caminero, Jake Fraley and Jonny DeLuca hit home runs and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Chicago White Sox 8-3 on Wednesday night for their fifth straight victory.

Caminero hit his third homer in the third off White Sox starter Sean Burke (0-2), blasting a rocket down the left field line to give the Rays a 1-0 lead. He had an RBI grounder in the fifth before Jonathan Aranda doubled the bases.

Fraley hit his first home run to right at the start of the sixth inning, making the score 4-0. DeLuca, who was batting for Fraley, hit three runs against Tyler Gilbert for a four-run seventh.

After Cole Sulser opened the first two innings for Tampa Bay, Jesse Scholtens (1-0) allowed one hit in five innings in relief.

The start of the game was delayed several minutes after a singer hosting the “Jackie Robinson Day” celebrations fell to the ground. The White Sox said longtime national anthem performer Gerald Chaney collapsed during a performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and was taken to the hospital.

The White Sox lost seven of nine games. They scored all of their points in the ninth to avoid a third elimination in five games.

Burke gave up four runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Sam Antonacci led off the second inning with a single in his first major league at-bat, but was eliminated while trying to get to second on a pinball. After pitching 4 1/3 innings in Tuesday’s loss, highly touted left-hander Noah Schultz was the second highly touted prospect to make his Chicago debut in recent days.
