The University of North Carolina at Charlotte has officially named Wes Miller as the program’s next head coach. Miller is a coach with 15 years of experience, having spent time at UNC Greensboro (2011-2021) and Cincinnati (2021-2026) during his career.
A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, he played linebacker for the Tar Heels from 2004 to 2007 under Roy Williams.
Although he finished above .500 in each of his five years at Cincinnati (100-74), he was never able to lead the Bearcats to the NCAA tournament, ultimately leading to the two teams parting ways.
Miller had great success in the mid-major leagues during his time at UNC Greensboro, leading them to four regular season championships and two March Madness appearances.

49ers rebuild
Miller now takes over a 49ers team that’s in dire need of motivation, and he can certainly provide that. Charlotte has finished below .500 12 times in 22 years under six different head coaches since its last trip to March Madness in 2004-2005.
He brings recruiting upside and a solid track record that includes seven four-star recruits to Cincinnati during his tenure.

Defense is also a big part of his coaching plan, and he has led the Bearcats to a top-five defense in the league during his five years at the helm.

Miller and Charlotte agreed to a five-year contract that will keep him with the 49ers through at least the 2030-31 season.
