Nebraska falters late in 67-62 loss to Baylor in NCAA Tournament

The Nebraska women’s basketball team (19-13) advanced to the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday after defeating Richmond in Wednesday’s Final Four. The No. 11 Huskers faced No. 6 Baylor University (25-8) in the first round, but were unable to win again, losing 67-62.

Nebraska was deep in the fourth quarter again, leading by six points after the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Bears outscored the Huskers 26-15. It marked Nebraska’s 10th loss of the season, coming within two possessions of the game in the final six minutes.

The Huskers finished the game with 22 fouls and 15 turnovers. In the fourth quarter alone, Baylor forced 6 turnovers and 8 fouls through strong pressure. On the day, the Bears made 21 of 29 free throws and scored 18 points off turnovers.

Nebraska scored 23 points off turnovers but shot just 13 of 15 from the line. Baylor also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Huskers 43-33. That offset Nebraska’s strong performance from three-point range. The Huskers shot 9-for-21 from beyond the arc, while the Bears shot 4-for-21 from beyond the arc. Nebraska also shot 20-for-59 from the field, while Baylor shot 21-for-57.

Britt Prince made 8 of 19 shots, 3 of 7 three-pointers, and 8 of 8 free throws. He scored 27 points and once again became the team’s scoring leader. She finished the season with 572 points, bringing her career scoring total to 975.

Logan Nicely scored 11 points on 4-for-10 shooting and 3-for-6 shooting in the loss. Jessica Petrie was among Nebraska’s top scorers, finishing with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting, 1-for-2 shooting from the field, and 1-for-1 shooting from the field. Amiah Hargrove was the Huskers’ leading rebounder with six points and 11 rebounds on the day.

Nebraska finished the season with a 19-13 record, making its third consecutive NCAA Tournament and winning its 10th tournament game in Wednesday’s Final Four game against Richmond.
