Bengals free agent caught in tug-of-war with Broncos

The Cincinnati Bengals lost a key free agent to the Denver Broncos on Wednesday night.

Until they didn’t.

That free agent is safety Tycen Anderson, who isn’t a household name but is an integral part of Cincinnati’s Darrin Simmons special teams unit.

Anderson signed a one-year deal with the Broncos on Wednesday night, according to Local 12’s Yanni Tragellis and others.

The Denver Post’s Parker Gabriel followed up with his own report saying there was no deal: “It’s not out of the question — safety depth and special teams in general are what Denver needs — but one source said an agreement between the two sides is ‘far from done.'”

It would be shocking if the Bengals lost Anderson, a 2022 fifth-round pick who has developed into a key contributor on special teams. Things have been tough for him with the Bengals since Jesse Bates left.

Considering Anderson’s projected market is only $1.8 million per year, it would be surprising for the Bengals to let him go… but there won’t be much interest from other teams either.

Losing Anderson will quietly create a sizable need for the Bengals, so the legend is suddenly worth paying attention to.
