The blue-chip prospect later took official visits to Texas and USC. Ultimately, though, he never strayed from his statement against LSU.

“It was an easy decision … there’s no place like home,” Anderson told Rivals upon joining the Tigers.

He’s maintained that same attitude throughout this long recruiting process, which has included changes in DL coaches (Bo Davis to Kyle Williams) and head coaches.

Frank Wilson played a leading role in this recruitment and was the catalyst for Anderson to stay at the Boot.

“Geaux Tigers,” Anderson told Opponent of his commitment status after recording an official visit elsewhere.

Reconnaissance summary

“Explosive interior defensive lineman with tremendous strength and the ability to create two gaps down the defensive line. Proven at 6’3.5″, 355 lbs with over 33″ arms and excellent weight carrying ability. Explosive at the line of scrimmage for his size. Has excellent pad level and vision out of the backfield. Knows leverage and gets out of blocks with ease. Had 15 total tackles for loss as a junior, plus 10 more tackles for loss. As he ages, he will need to maintain the combination of size and athleticism to be a gap tackler at the next level, but he also has the ability to complete one-handed coverage if needed.” — Cody Belair, Rival Nation Scouts

“LSU Commitment Richard Anderson (No. 18) Edna Karr added his fifth star after two dominant seasons in New Orleans. Anderson has been one of the top tackle prospects in high school football over the past few years because of his rare combination of size, field twitchiness and ability to play out of the backfield. The 6-foot-3.5, 350-pounder has a natural ability to find the ball carrier while defending. Anderson will need to lose some weight at the college level, but his action skills and athleticism stand out on film as he shows the ability to track plays in pursuit. ” — Charles Ball, Rivals Director of Rankings and Scouting
