Today we have discovered the match officials line-up for this crucial match and as usual, the Scottish Football Association’s selection always seems to involve at least one known supporter of the Ibrox club. We’ll have Nick Walsh blowing the whistle this weekend, while David Dickinson will be on VAR duty and his own loyalty is well known.

The Scottish Football Association confirmed the full squad via the official website earlier today. At Tannadice, Nick Walsh will be assisted by Daniel McFarland and David McGeech in running the line.

Meanwhile, David Dickinson, back at VAR HQ, will be assisted at Clydesdale House by Andrew Dallas, another supporter you know.

Last weekend, John Beaton (yep, you guessed it) couldn’t bring himself to point to Celtic for a penalty, despite having the best view on the pitch to see Daizen Maeda’s cutback to deny a goal-scoring opportunity. For the second consecutive Celtic game, Beaton was forced to step in front of the monitor by the VAR team and, albeit with great reluctance, had to point to the spot.

The look on Beaton’s face was as if he had just realized he had stepped on something extremely unpleasant. Life is tough as a fan with a whistle.

Hearts and Rangers host Dundee at 3pm on Saturday, while Aberdeen travel to Ibrox to face Rangers at 5.45pm. Hopefully both sides can drop some points before Celtic take on Jim Goodwin’s side at Tannadice on Sunday lunchtime.

Dundee United beat Celtic 2-1 in December last year when Wilfried Nancy was in the dugout. It was also that night that Celtic supporters turned to the Frenchman and told him where they wanted him to go.

Something to watch out for in this game is the chance for Green Brigade and Boyce Celtic to sit next to each other on the Celtic board. It was quite funny last time when we concocted a story in the tabloids accusing a Celtic supporter of brandishing a knife while standing next to a line of police.

No knife, of course, but mainstream hackers wouldn’t miss the chance to kick a Celtic supporter. Want to know who they support?
